The statistics for house fires can be staggering to look at on paper. As reported by the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association), in 2011 U.S. fire departments responded to 370,000 home structure fires. These fires caused 13,910 civilian injuries, 2,520 civilian deaths, and $6.9 billion in direct damage.

However, the heaviest of all the realizations to have about house fires is that the top cause of house fires – cooking – is easily preventable.
