What Happens in the Event of a Fire

Today we want to talk about what happens in the event of a fire. A house fire can be absolutely detrimental and here at OHI, we know firsthand how destructive they can really be. Though we don’t often like to think about our own home in such a disaster, it’s important to know the steps of what happens in the event of a fire.

Let’s set up a possible scenario:

1. Disaster Strikes

Something terrible happens in your home—whether that’s some ashes that weren’t disposed of properly or a simple electrical fire. Fires can often start in the most unexpected of places, and often when you aren’t even home. Before you know it, the unthinkable happens: you’ve got a fire on your hands.

2. Fire department called

First, the fire department is called – whether by you or a nice neighbor. They come rushing immediately to your fire and take care of what they need to take care of. Thankfully no one is hurt, but what do you do now?

3. OHI is called

This is where we come in here at OHI. We work with the local fire departments in the area and all major insurance companies. We get there as quickly as we can, no matter what time it is, so that we can assess the situation and determine what’s needed to protect your home. We board up all the windows and doors so that the contents in your home are protected and secured. trick questions . We’ll keep an eye on your house for 72 hours, giving you the time you need to slow down and make the best decision moving forward for your home.

The last thing you want is for someone to take advantage of you in this vulnerable situation—whether that’s an unsolicited contractor knocking on your door or a burglar breaking into your unoccupied home.
